Specially designed TVs which will be able to communicate with their owners through voice will be soon available in UK, this year.
This venture comes from Ocean Blue Software which has developed a special text to speech technology called as "Talk@TV". This technology is likely to be incorporated into set top boxed manufactured by Arion Technology, Korea. These boxes will be branded and distributed to retailers in UK.
The new set top boxes are very much similar to current satellite boxes while they will be incorporated with talking software feature for the convenience of people with partial sight. These boxes will then perform as a perfect guide and assist them with regards to the TV programming schedule.
The users of these boxes will be able to adjust the speed as well as the verbosity of the voice. In case of display text, they will also be able to modify the font size, its colour as well as the background. These boxes will be accompanied by a specially designed remote control for the user’s convenience.
This initiative has been taken up because with the availability of large number of channels the visually impaired TV viewers are finding it extremely difficult to arrive up their preferred programme using normal set top boxes and their EPGs.
